Had breakfast here on a very cold, frosty January morning. Went with the #2 - the Sausage, egg, and cheese McMuffin Breakfast value meal - with hashbrown and medium coffee. The gentleman serving me asked what I wanted in my coffee - I replied: "cream and one Splenda." He nailed it - just the right amount of cream in the coffee. I prefer to do it myself - but I can't complain if they do it right! Breakfast sammich was tasty and hit the spot, hash brown was hot and only slightly greasy. Coffee was strong and hot!

Wow, this place was filled beyond capacity with kids and teenagers. After visiting this location about three times or more over the past year, I found this is continually the case. The sitting area in the play place was crowded. Some parents had to stand and wait for space, just so they could stay close for their own kids. But, some chose to walk off and leave the kids while they took their meals in the quieter part of the restaurant. This was a concern of mine, because there were WAY too many kids unsupervised. There are posted rules at McD's, which include required parental supervision, but I have yet to see any rules enforced by anyone. I also find it nasty when people bring their kids in without socks, but that is apparently only my issue. The food was typical and the staff were nice. Staff did tend to stay safe behind the counter from the mayhem, which was probably wise.

It's delicious. It's glorious. I love McD fries over any other. The place is very clean, the service fast and helpful. I must go here once a week. It has free-wifi. It's fast food, get over it preachy reviewers. I don't go to your soy/veg/glut-free restaurants and whinge about how I don't like that type of food, then give that place a 2 star rating based on that. Rate the FOOD, not the choice people make.

The best thing about this McDonald's is the speed. Fast, fast, fast at the drive thru. Fries are usually decent and fresh, but the sandwiches and burgers are thrown together pretty hastily and you loose most of the lettuce and toppings to the floor of your car. They have the city's largest pothole as you leave so watch out. Also you can't make a right back onto College Ave, which is a pain in the butt.

I was recently to this McDonald's for the first time. It looked very fancy on the inside and out. They had a water feature with water trickling down the golden arches where you they take your order on the inside and another one where you go through the drive up. On this occasion it was the first time I tried an iced coffee drink from them and to their credit I liked it quite a bit and heard about it before that it was rated very highly by your average consumer as well for fast food chains so in that regard I think it really held up there. Despite all of the glossy exterior of this location it still boils down that you are ordering fast food and that it is not good for you to have in frequent intervals so that is still something to keep in mind here in Fort Collins where being fit and having pretty presentations of your home or business is almost an expectation. In other words just don't eat a lot of fast food. Period!

Dressed in our sleek and sophisticated date night attire, we dropped the kids off at the sitter's house and made our way to meet a group of friends for dinner. We were off to check out the newest Mexican restaurant Downtown, cuisine that was unlike any other in the city. It was the talk of the town since opening a few months ago, and as a Fort Collins food writer, I was dying to try it out to hopefully give it the thumbs up in my next review. No more than 10 minutes after dropping our two boys off, we were pulling into the parking lot at the restaurant and my cell phone rings. "Hello?" I answer, not recognizing the number. "Kristin, The Toddler has a fever and I think you need to come get him," I hear. Damn. Isn't this just our luck. We immediately cancel with our friends and turn around to go get the kids. The Toddler has a fever of 102 and seems very tired. The Preschooler is hungry because he hasn't had his dinner yet. On the drive home, The Husband goes through the drive-thru and we grab McDonald's. And as a food writer, I have to write what I eat. At my worn and wobbly kitchen table, the boys ate their Happy Meals. Each Happy Meal comes with 4 chicken nuggets, a small fry, milk, and of course, a plastic toy that distracts them from eating their dinner. This night, both boys got action figures from the latest sci-fi movie that was just released, which they will not see because they are not old enough. Ironic. They joyfully ate their overly salted fries, even The Toddler who was shivering from the fever chills. The name "Happy Meal" seems to fit well. The food boxed in mazes and puzzles automatically makes the kids smile, no matter the flu, an earthquake or the death of our beloved family dog. I had ordered the Chicken McNugget Value Meal - 10 nuggets, a medium fry and drink. In my black stiletto knee-high boots and skinny jeans, I ate each nugget trying to discern what part of the bird this mystery meat came from. The crunchy, fried breaded coating was perfect for dipping, encasing the peppery flavor in sweet and sour sauce that was high-fructose corn syrup heaven. The balance of vinegar from the sauce and the fatty goodness from the nugget was harmonious. The fries were room temperature, cooling quickly on the drive home. The Husband likes to microwave them; I like to just eat them. The crystals of salt created a white coating on my fingertips. "I'm lovin' it" indeed. The Husband ordered two of the McDoubles - two-patty cheeseburgers with one slice of cheese, plain and a side of fries. The McDoubles, with their melted cheese folding softly over the warm 100% beef patties, made my heart want to explode...with joy (and an aneurysm). We were really excited about our adult date night only to go with kid-friendly, All-American fast food. Sometimes, things don't go as planned and that's what being a parent is all about. Often times as a restaurant critic I take my kids to work and on this night, they ended up taking me. I don't think they have a future in food writing.
